World Languages for Elementary, Middle & High School Students
World languages are no longer
an elective for your child.
To prepare for college and careers in the 21st century, students must learn skills beyond the traditional studies of of math and reading. In today’s world, International connections are stronger than ever. Cross-cultural interactions are growing incredibly and K-12 students need both the cultural awareness and world language skills to communicate accurately and effectively with people from across the globe.
Studies show that introducing foreign languages early in a student’s education and continuing these studies through college maximizes leaps in language proficiency. This education also enriches the student personally and professionally, and becomes key to making him or her a global citizen.

OUR GOALS FOR TEACHERS
With almost 100 years of success with world languages at Middlebury College, MIL’s Professional Development will share our renowned immersion pedagogy to improve the student experience!
MIL envisions students spending time in-language to gain proficiency – that is, not only will students read and write, but they will also listen and speak the target language within authentic cultural contexts.
- PD training provides engaging materials, structured lesson plans, and instructional coaching that utilize the Middlebury model
- While gaining continuing education credit, you’ll also take away the most academically accomplished language training available
OUR GOALS FOR ADMINISTRATORS
Managing PD often puts administrators at a crossroads. How do you provide the most effective training for your instructional staff, without taking too much classroom time away from students?
During financially difficult times, how do you obtain the best-quality PD for your staff without paying premium dollars that could be allocated to other programs that are just as critical? Because our PD uses Middlebury’s renowned immersion pedagogy, honed through 100 years of success, we have the tools and expertise to help you redefine your school or district goals to improve student achievement in world language learning. Our team meets with school and district leaders to identify program improvement goals and ideal approaches based on data gathered using classroom observation tools:
- MIL PD offers ultimate flexibility; you decide when it is delivered, how it is delivered and the type of credit that teachers can receive
- Choose from onsite training, virtual online or a combination of both to meet time and budgetary restrictions
- Learn how to use independent 3rd party assessment instruments to evaluate and analyze data to inform instruction
