A+nyWhere Learning System®

Recorded at the Texas Computer Education Association’s (TCEA) annual conference in Austin, TX, 2008

See Dr. Lura Davidson, a former K–12 superintendent and current Adjunct Instructor for Higher Education at Concordia University in Austin, speak about effective implementations of the A+nyWhere Learning System® (A+®) courseware for at-risk students.

Dr. Davidson recalls her experience as a Superintendent in the Missouri school system where she was challenged to find cost-effective technology-based solutions to aid the learning of a diverse body of students.

Dr. Davidson draws on her expertise in curriculum instruction by highlighting the features in the A+® courseware that set it apart from other electronic curricula – from the consistency within the A+® courseware that greatly benefits the learning needs of at-risk students – to the immediate reporting capabilities that ease teacher workloads.

See what happened when a North Carolina school principal, embarrassed by his low-performance school, took it personally and called A+®.

This unsolicited video was produced by The Evaluation Services Section of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction as one in a series of videos spotlighting best practices. In this 30 minute video, three teachers and the principal, from Lumberton High School describe how the A+nyWhere Learning System® increased their students’ testing performances by 34% in one year. The first year they implemented the A+® program, the students’ test scores went from 3.7 in 10 students to 7.1 in 10 at grade level. They also describe — in depth — the ease of use, practice, testing, reporting and overall flexibility of the A+® software. “We can reach ALL the learners with A+®,” claims principal Greg Killingsworth. “But, don’t take our word for it, see for yourself!”

As a teacher, I have found A+LS to be very user-friendly. More importantly, our students are learning and retaining the knowledge they are being taught. They are achieving success in the classroom, which is a new experience for most of our students.Jacque Poole, Teacher, Flanner House Higher Learning Center

We have had very positive results in our first year of implementation of the software. We had 100 students in summer school catching up on classes they had failed. We normally have only 15 to 20 willing to sit in class for the six weeks it takes to get the credit they need towards graduation. The software allowed students to work at their own pace and we had students willing to come in at 7:00 A.M. and work until 1:00P.M. One student finished his course work in three days and was done. In a regular class they would have had to sit there for another five weeks.

I love the report system in A+LS. I can gain info very fast on student activity. I review and print reports often, and use those for my individual follow-up reports with students. I see so many great opportunities for students and teachers alike.Dr. Lida Criner

A+LS is wonderful for non-traditional students because they can work on their specific trouble spots. If the student is willing to work, A+LS can help.Dr. Hilda Marino Black

A 6th grade social studies teacher told me that she loved A+LS because the social studies program followed her book so closely that it appeared to have been written straight from her text book. Any lesson she taught could be immediately reinforced by using the A+LS program. Many of the elementary teachers have expressed the same feelings about the reading and science programs.Rex Robinson

In all of our schools, we have mainstreamed A+LS into our daily instruction. This was a significant contributor to the fact that we were one of only nine districts of six or more schools in Georgia who met AYP last year.Bob Weems

My school uses the A+LS computer software as its primary mode of instruction. We selected the A+LS software because of its extensive curricula areas, grade level availability, comprehensive content and an easy to use, secure management system. Students are able to work independently on their individualized curriculum at their own pace. The lessons are challenging, but not too difficult for the student to master. The instructor can choose from a wide variety of reports from the management system to keep abreast of the student’s progress at any given time. We’ve not been disappointed with our decision to purchase the A+nyWhere Learning System.Margaret Lundquist, M.S. Ed.
